USDA remains 'confident' about COOL

While she declined to comment directly about the meat groups' lawsuit challenging country-of-origin labeling, a USDA spokeswoman maintains the agency still is "confident" with regard to the effectiveness of the law, which was revised earlier this year. “USDA remains confident that these changes will improve the overall operation of the program and also bring the mandatory COOL requirements into compliance with U.S. international trade obligations," Michelle Saghafi told me in an email this morning.
